Encouragement 101: The Gift of Words

This is the first post in a three-part series on simple ways to encourage grassroots ministries.

"The Lord God has given Me the tongue of those who are instructed to know how to sustain the weary with a word." Is. 50:4 HCSB

Words are powerful. The same tongue that can build towers of faith can also bring destruction.

Scripture tells us that our words can bring life. Jesus, who is THE Word, gave us the pattern for creating life with our words (Is. 50:4; John 1:1). His words revealed needs. His words healed. His words changed
the world.

Giving of Life is about encouraging grassroots ministries as they give life to others in everyday actions. Sometimes the vital work of these ministries is eclipsed by larger organizations with larger support networks. We want to change that.

How can you help? Help us encourage the ministries that have applied to Giving of Life this year by giving the gift of words.

  • Select a ministry that speaks to your heart. Browse the ministries listed in our 14 different ministry categories (you’ll find a list at the bottom of this page). Find one that encourages you in your own God-given passions.
  • Send them a love note. On each ministry’s profile page, you’ll see an option on the bottom left to “encourage this ministry.” You can post a tweet to thank them for their efforts and passion.
  • Spread the news about a ministry. Share the ministry’s profile on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media outlet. When you talk about God’s activity through them, you’re spurring them on to finish their God-given task with perseverance.

Your encouragement has the capacity to resonate in ways beyond imagination. Your words can sustain a tired servant of God. Your words can be used by the Spirit to inspire others to act. And, honestly, we can’t think of anything more encouraging than that!

So what is stopping you? Encourage a ministry by giving them the gift of words today! Remind them of the eternal impact of their hearts and hands.

What a wonderful way to encourage these ministeries. Sometimes we feel like we don’t have the funds or time to contribute but we can always give encourageing words.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 25:11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.

Thank you for this reminder!

Totally love the concept of using our words to encourage those doing ministry. I loved checking out what each of these ministries is about. There are tons of ministries that need to know about this site.

Thanks for making us aware of the different ministries we can be encouraging, not only with words, but in deed as well. By listing and giving info on these ministries, you have made it so easy for people to get involved in so many ways. Thank you for offering a way for us to be encouraging to others who are giving of themselves to build God’s kingdom!  smile

Absolutely, Paula! We are so glad it that Giving of Life can be used to support these ministries in ways that aren’t strictly financial.

Love it!

Encouraging through words, as simple as it sounds, is so powerful. We often shy away from encouraging through deeds to support these ministries, not because we don’t want to but life happens, in short. I am glad I have no excuse now. Thank you.

Woohoo! That’s so encouraging to hear, Nive! Thanks for sharing.
