Sewing Machines for Burundian Women

By Tirzah International

This summer, a class of 45 young women will graduate from Tirzah International’s sewing program.  These women were accepted into the program because they have no other source of help in one of the world’s poorest nations.

They’ve seen family members killed during the genocide, they’ve been betrayed by parents and left to fend for themselves.

However, for the last ten months, they’ve learned that their lives are valuable and that they are precious to God.  They’ve been fed a daily nutritious meal.  They’ve been taught the Word of God.  They’ve learned to sew - a practical skill that will help them to sustain themselves and their children.

Prior to their graduation, Tirzah International invites friends to donate funds so that a new sewing machine may be provided for each graduate.  This way she can begin her new business the day she graduates, providing her own income and often hiring other young women to assist her.

AQUAPONICS TO FEED THE CHILDREN

By Agape Children’s Ministry

Agape intends to build and maintain an aquaponics system that allows our ministry to raise high protein Tilapia fish and also deliver nutrient rich effluent water for growing vegetables.  We will utilize the fish to enhance the protein component of the meals we serve the boys and girls we care for on our two campuses in Kisumu, Kenya.  Additionally, the system will supply most of the vegetables we need to feed over 100 children.
Agape Children’s Ministry began rescuing street children 20 years ago with a simple purpose of sharing God’s love by providing these helpless, hopeless children with food, shelter, medical care, education, and vocational training.  In a non-coercive way, we share the life-changing message of the Gospel with them because we know that as they experience His forgiveness in their lives, they can begin to forgive others for what has been done to them.
Agape currently maintains separate boys’ and girls’ campuses in Kisumu as well as a boys’ vocational training center in Matoso, Kenya.  It is our plan to construct and operate this initial aquaponics system on the boys’ campus, our largest campus in Kisumu.  Based upon its success, we envision developing systems on our other campuses as well.
While we take children off the streets and care for them on our campuses, our goal is to return and reintegrate them back into their families or extended families.

Spring Chickens

By 4H.I.M. AKA His Healing Helping Hands International Ministries

Our Spring Chickens project is designed to supply the needed chicks for our new poultry operation in Togo.  In 2007, we established Kalaveria Primary School just outside a rural farming community near Badoughbe, which is 45 minutes east of the capital city of Lome’.

Unfortunately, the farmers in the area find it difficult to pay school fees to cover the costs of the school. Thus, the school requires subsidies from the our ministry. Our model is to create projects that are self-sustaining, so to make the school sustainable we are building a poultry operation.

We have secured two hectares of land adjacent to the school and are just finishing up the poultry barn.  We have introduced a drip irrigation system to help with the crops and will be digging three water wells complete with new hand pumps. We are also planting corn and other vegetables on the land and have successfully harvested one season of crops.

The poultry operation and growing of crops will be manned by the school faculty and the students. The poultry operation will allow the children to learn animal husbandry, irrigation, and better farming methods, along with getting their products to market. The school will receive 100% of the profits and the children will learn the skills needed to provide for their families when they are adults.

Expand our Teaching, Training and Resource Center!

By TentMaker Ministries

Many of you have been faithfully praying with us for the Lord to provide a property for the establishment of a local church and teaching, training and resource center. We thank you for those prayers, which were heard and were answered! In January of this year the Lord provided us with a property with 10 single family homes on it, 6 of which are occupied by foster parents caring for orphans, and a church/preschool building which we are operating the Naledi Christian Preschool and Sunday church services out of. The preschool is currently 32 3- and 4- year olds registered and has provided employment for five local women.

With a long-term home secure, we are now planning to expand the facilities used for the preschool, church, and teaching/training/resource center by adding a second, larger (2,000 sq. ft.) structure made largely out of cargo containers which will constitute the exterior load-bearing walls. Our hope is to have this second structure ready for use when the new school year starts in South Africa in January. We currently have two 6 meter cargo containers in South Africa which will make up one end wall. Plans are to receive a 12 meter container before year-end from our friends at Cargo Of Dreams, which will serve as the opposite load bearing wall and be built out to include the kitchen, bathrooms and a sickroom, and be filled with supplies and the roof trusses and roofing materials to cover the structure with.

Green Spaces

By The Simple Way

The Simple Way is going to create another beautiful mural in Kensington. We believe in healing and transformation and so we are committed to painting and planting in our neighborhood as we PRACTICE RESURRECTION!

The Simple Way, is a web of subversive friends, conspiring to spread the vision of “Loving God, Loving People, and Following Jesus” in our neighborhoods and in our world. We are committed to the restoration of families, neighborhoods, and our planet.  We have always been active in areas of advocacy and justice, such as combating the criminalization of homelessness (anti-homeless legislation) and gun violence.

But something happened on June 20th, 2007 at 4:30AM, that changed the trajectory of our work in Kensington. We woke to a 7 alarm fire, being fearlessly fought by over 170 firefighters - one of the worst fires our neighborhood has ever seen. This was an historic turning point for our organization, when that neglected, city-owned factory caught on fire and burned down a block of our neighborhood, displacing over 100 families.
Since then, it has been our dream to restore the land burnt by the fire, where the factory used to be, and after 5 long years, we now have access to this city owned land! We have had success stabilizing families who lost their homes, we have restored nearly a dozen abandoned houses, and created community gardens on 5 formerly vacant, trash-strewn lots.

Micro-enterprise & Training for Widows in Gabon, Africa

By E4 Project

One of our ministry partners in Gabon is Bon Samaritan - a ministry that serves widows and marginalized women. E4 Project has served with this ministry in several ways. We have led training for the women to start businesses in beading, sewing, soap making, baking and agriculture.  We have also provided seed money to the ministry so that they can build and provide kiosks for the women, as well as seed money for the women to start their businesses.  Since E4 Project started serving alongside Bon Samaritan about two years ago, we have trained over 100 women.  We have provided funds for about 8 kiosks that have been built and are now impacting over 70 women and their children by providing income for families who had nothing before finding Bon Samaritan and the Church.

Celebrating 10 Years of Ministry!

By Leadership Transformations

LTi invests heavily in various forms of “burnout prevention” serving those in full time Christian ministry work (pastors and ministry leaders) all over the country (and occasionally in Eastern Europe).  The stats on full-time ministry people who crash and burn, struggle with ongoing discouragement or depression, leave the ministry within 5 years of seminary, etc. are staggering and we are endeavoring to reverse those stats.  We are convinced that these are soul level issues and, ironically, we find that the soul is the most neglected aspect of the Christian leader’s life – usually because they are so focused on caring for the souls of others and it feels like selfishness to care for their own (this is a well crafted and effective lie of the enemy).  The video below captures a taste of LTi’s ministry in 2012:

Developing a Collaborative Giving Platform called Common Change

By Relational Tithe

In 2011, Relational Tithe began development on ‘Common Change’ - a web tool to facilitate collaborative giving amongst other groups. The spark has caught and now we are finally launching the platform that helps make this possibility accessible to hundreds and even thousands of people!

In 2005, compelled to action by their faith, a group of friends founded ‘Relational Tithe’, a collaborative giving plan that enabled them to pool resources and meet needs of people they were in relationship with. Fast forward 8 years and it is time to share this little experiment as a workable tool with the rest of the world.

In the years that Relational Tithe was in motion, we were able to touch the lives of over 1000 families and individuals in over 15 countries including Ghana, Cuba, Egypt, Syria, Mexico, Thailand, Japan, South Africa, Brazil, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Israel/Palestine and the United States. Over $500,000 has been given directly to people in need.

Royal Family KIDS’ Camp Colorado Springs

By Royal Family KIDS’ Camp Colorado Springs

We give life to the children we serve by being The Voice of More for foster children who have been physically, sexually, and emotionally abused and neglected. Children 6 to 12 years old head up to cam in the mountains with us for five days of positive memories. We share God’s plan for their lives and teach them how to build a firm foundation, pray to God, trust God, and follow a Godly plan…with the partnership of the Department of Human Services here in El Paso County in Colorado Springs. Royal Family KIDS’ Camp occurs in 36 states around the country each summer, reaching about five percent of foster children each summer. Here in Colorado Springs, we have a tea party one afternoon for the girls to speak identity, affirmation, and encouragement into them - and treat them royally - and have Camp Grandpa and Grandma pray over them and show them that men can value them just because they’re valuable. We have a Birthday Party for EVERY child in the middle of the week since most have never had a birthday party, tried cake, nor have they been celebrated. We also have a variety/talent show that the kids can sing, dance, whistle, kick dirt…whatever their talent is. We go crazy with applause! Each day is spent with time singing songs, listening to Bible Stories, watching puppet skits and dramas with camp staff, and loads of activity time to swim, ride horses, paint, play basketball, and other activities.

Giving Hope a Home

By Steamboat Springs Pregnancy Resource Center

Financial pressure is a leading reason cited by men and women for considering an abortion decision. Often, the difference between life and death is as simple as knowing that he or she is not alone and that she has material help from someone who cares. Understanding this, the Steamboat Springs Pregnancy Resource Center invests in our clients’ long-term health by more than just serving them with life-affirming education and options. We come alongside them with education that will help them to succeed as prudent, responsible parents and with supplies that will lessen their financial pressures. Donations to the SSPRC will help us encourage and empower young moms and single parents with cribs, car seats, baby equipment and supplies, and diapers and wet wipes—supplies they will earn through their participation in an education program that allows them to meet weekly with a personal advocate. This project not only affirms life, it promotes an abundant life for our clients and their families.

Empowering Victims of Sex Trafficking Through Self Defense

By Children’s HopeChest

Trafficking is hell. 27 million slaves. 1.2 million trafficked each year. Sold for sex. Sold into slavery.

There are great organizations who rescue victims every day…but then what? How does a trafficking victim reintegrate into society?

In Moldova, one of the top exporters of sexually trafficked women, Beginning of Life offers a new chance at life through a specialized restoration home program. Together, we are establishing the Center for Self Defense to teach women how to protect their bodies from sexual violence.

Once operational, the Center will serve trafficking victims and other vulnerable women. Specifically, we will use self-defense training like mixed-martial arts to rebuild confidence, and develop inner strength.

Mostly, we want to make sure these women can literally fight sex trafficking if they have to. To stop sexual violence against their bodies, and to have the confidence in themselves.

Housed in the basement of a church in Chisinau, Moldova, the Center for Self-Defense is a joint project of Children’s HopeChest and Beginning of Life.

Help us stop sex trafficking, and empower women to protect their bodies and fight sexual violence.

Aquaponic Farming: Fresh Food for a Community in Need

By Shepherd’s Hope Chicago

Shepherd’s Hope has sought to begin urban farming in our community for over a year.  By GOD’S grace the 5700 block of Lowe Ave is about to become the food center of Englewood.  Over the winter the LORD placed on the heart of Executive Director Brian Anderson that HE wanted us to use a different method of urban farming in the Englewood community.  A relatively new type of farming that could take place year-round.  After doing some research, it sounded relatively easy and used very little water compared to conventional farming.  The method would provide protein, fruits and vegetables using a symbiotic relationship in a greenhouse environment.  The LORD had peaked his interest and so he and another team member from Shepherd’s Hope attended a 3-day seminar in Milwaukee on aquaponic farming.  After 3 days their heads were spinning and the LORD was right again; this would be the perfect way to farm this Englewood community.

Education & Support For Children In Uganda

By Friends of TOUCH

Uganda has 2.5 million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, and 10 million children living in poverty. We are working in an urban slum area, where families are struggling to survive. Families don’t have resources to meet even the most basic needs, and 60% of our children don’t get regular meals at home. The cost of school supplies, uniforms, and fees puts education out of reach.

Most had lost hope of ever completing their education and escaping the relentless hunger and poverty that threatens their lives.

At Calvary Primary School, we feed 408 children two meals each day during the school term. We provide school fees or partial tuition assistance for these children. We also provide supplies, uniforms, and personal hygiene items. When children are sick, we take them for medical care. We provide tuition for 86 students in secondary schools, and 6 in vocational training.

Project Cargo: Summit to South Africa

By Cargo of Dreams

Summit County (CO) has embraced “Project Cargo: Summit to South Africa”, a community effort that will provide a teaching, resource, and orphan intervention care facility that will eventually be moved to South Africa.

Our first initiatives started in December 2013 (securing the seed capital for the project). From May until August people in Summit County will put to work their Time, Talent and Treasure (T3’s) to convert and fill a standard 40’ shipping container that will become the cornerstone container of the 2,000+ sq.ft facility.
The container will be completely transformed with the installation of a fully functional kitchen, bathroom, and bunk-bed bedrooms.
A special mural design painted on the outside will add the final touch before loading the roof structure and resources needed to complete and operate the facility.

Upon arrival a two other containers, already on site, will be remodeled with construction materials shipped inside the Summit County container.
The recipient community secures the materials and labor needed for the foundations and brickwork needed to complete the multi purpose room between the two containers. The entire facility is then cover by a roof structure that is also shipped inside the Summit container.

Participants in Summit County will partner with the local community in October/Novermber 2013 to install the roof structure and the cutting of openings for the installation of windows and doors.

A local couple, Bill and Susan Weibel, from Breckenridge will oversee the various programs in partnership with the recipient community’s leadership, once the facility is completed.

Save a House/Make a Home

By Simple Homes

Simple Homes is our newest experiment in resurrection - taking abandoned houses and bringing them back to life, building a new world one house at a time.

Here’s how it works: we purchase an abandoned house for $15,000 and spend about $10,000 on renovations. Then we match it up with a neighbor who is ready to own his or her own home. We raise all the money so that we can finance it ourselves at 0% interest and 0% profit. The new homeowner pays $300 a month (about half of what most folks pay in rent) and in 10 years he or she owns the house. Our first home, 3228 Potter Street, is going to our neighbor and friend Miguel and his family.

Turning vacant houses into viable homes is one critical part of our holistic, integral work in combatting poverty and inequality and Simple Homes will be the vehicle for all things housing around here.

Technology & Media Outreach Need

By Special Touch Ministry, Inc

Our Project…People with disabilities have the highest divorce and suicide rates in the country. Having a solid spiritual faith base and other believers to connect with can help in reducing these rates. Connecting people with disabilities to faith based support programs, churches, and other believers is critical.

But many people with disabilities find travel difficult. In the winter months some barely leave their homes. Other people are in group homes with no access to faith-based support. Many places of worship offer little access for those who are able to leave their homes desiring to meet with other believers.

Our ongoing project is to maintain and increase our online media to reach and impact a greater number of people with disabilities. Special Touch Ministry will provide strong online services that connect people with disabilities to churches, support programs and other believers, enlarging their network of support options.

Women must apply and commit to weekly meetings and the values of the program. Twenty-five women are accepted each term and to date 50 women have been involved successfully so far. After completing a business plan and learning certain life skills to help them achieve, other women in their group determine which projects and participants are the best choices. So far, 100% of the women have repaid their loans in full. This project will raise funds for another class of 25 women.

Revival Through Refuge

By Broken Hearts Inc

Broken Heart exists to meet the relational, spiritual, and physical needs of the broken-hearted living and working on the streets.

One of the ways we do this is with a weekly bible study and meal on the street called The Refuge, for those who might otherwise be overlooked or even rejected from typical churches.

In order to keep providing these resources we need your help! Our weekly Bible study consists of sharing the love of God by building relationships with our friends on the street, prayer, sharing meals and listening to their stories.

Each story makes a difference, and in order to change the route of their story to happiness we need your help. The cost to do this is $3,200. Broken Heart believes that if 200 people give $16, we can make an impact in every broken-hearted in the city of Los Angeles.  Can YOU join us?

CiViL - Building Assets for Life

By Touchstone Youth Resource Services, Inc.

Touchstone Youth Resource Services, Inc. is specifically seeking funding for expanding CiViL, our award-winning character education initiative for high school students. CiViL is comprised of two components - CiViL Groups and CiViL Service.

CiViL Groups provides students a safe, small-group environment where they can face, and work through, the often painful issues and pressing concerns that stand in the way of their growth and success.  Students meet weekly with a trained mentor that guides them through heart-level discussions regarding the issues pertinent to their situation. CiViL Groups draws from real-life, personal events as a basis for teaching, rather than the traditional instruction derived simply from definitions of value-based words.

CiViL Service provides students the opportunity to make a difference in their community through monthly service-learning projects. CiViL Service has given some of the most disadvantaged students the life-changing experience of making a difference as far away as hurricane-ravaged Mississippi, and as close as their own neighborhoods. Students experience that they can make a difference in the lives of others in their community. As one student poignantly put it after a work project, “I finally feel like I’ve done something with my life that matters.”

Combatting Suicide in the Military

By Rough Cut Men Ministries, Inc.

This project is aimed directly at turning the rising tide of suicide in the military.  Of the over 350 suicides or suspected suicides of both active duty and reserve service members in 2012, only a small percentage have been reported to be related to PTSD or other combat related mental issues.  We believe the larger percentage of these suicides stem from isolation. Many of these soldiers, after facing multiple deployments where every minute may be life or death, return home to marital issues, friendlessness, depression, financial hardship and a myriad of other challenges that all men face.  We believe that if we can connect men, which is the principal focus of our ministry regardless of the audience, then we can defray the impact of a return to “Life as Usual” and consequently lower the number of suicides and attempted suicides among male service members and combat veterans.

Mac’ed Up for Business

By Serve & Protect

Currently we have a need for an iMac, iPhone 5, and iPad. Our laptop is a MacBook dating from 2006, and has topped out being able to update software and for space.

Because we do not have the current OS, we cannot utilize IMessage, which allows texting from desktop or phone. We do significant text counseling, and to have it all work, it requires the current OS.

This means the iMac / iPhone 5 so we can keep our computer going, increase design options, and add the software that will get us current in design ability and communications. The phone is key so as to respond to text when not at the desk. With this system, the tests sync in real time. Critical in counseling.

The iPad is important for making presentations. All we can do not is hand a printed page and refer to our website.

Words of Life for South Sudan

By Media Associates International

Media Associates International (MAI) is conducting a three-year training program to develop national writers and launch a Christian publishing program in South Sudan, the world’s newest nation.

The training program is being carried out in partnership with Bishop Joseph Garang Atem and the Diocese of Renk of the Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS). We are responding to his request for help in developing Christian publishing to strengthen the nation’s church and society.

South Sudan received independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011, following a 21-year civil war which cost 2 million lives and resulted in widespread destruction of infrastructure (the nation has only one paved road) and displacement of the population.  The war pitted the mostly Christian and animist South against the Muslim fundamentalist regime in Khartoum in the north.

The challenge of developing self-sustaining Christian publishing in South Sudan will be great, but so is the need for it.  Bishop Joseph sees locally authored Christian books as a key to “nation building,” a means of planting Christian values in society, developing a new generation of young readers, and for providing solid resources for Christian leadership and discipleship.

In a culture marked by death in recent years, newly equipped South Sudanese writers will offer words of life and hope to readers hungry for both.

Starter home office for homeless advocates

By Miles of Help Through Christ

Since its inception as an organized nonprofit organization Miles of Help Through Christ has operated out of its founder’s residential home, which is a six bedroom home that is equally divided between his living space and the ministry space that serves as the organization’s office, storage, and operating facility.

Gus Martinez, the founder, has not minded the hundreds of volunteers and other personnel that have come and gone in the process. In some cases he has opened up his living space as additional storage or to allow displaced volunteers sleep overs.

The ministry itself has suffered limitations because of the residential address. Such as not being considered for the needed services of a pantry because of a residential address which organizations such as Second Harvest require a commercial address in order to assist. Valencia College will not permit students to complete community service hours or internships from a residential address and also require a commercial office.

Additionally, large corporations and philanthropist continue to pass us by because of the residential address.  We are in need of a start up office in order to benefit from those opportunities that have passed us by in our desire to continue helping the homeless and needy.

Finally, because we do not have a central point we our senior volunteers working from the streets and their homes which limits their reach because of required additional driving.

After the two weeks of training, the interns spend four alternating weeks at a particular minsitry or agency, such as Shepherd Community or The John H. Boner Center, getting expereince with hands-on minsitry in an area they have communicated interest in.

The other four alternating weeks are spent leading groups from churches across the country who come to Indy to engage in community development work and discipleship training.

Psychosine Research for Krabbe Disease

By Judson’s Legacy

Psychosine is the toxic substance that destroys the white matter of the brain in those who suffer from Krabbe leukodystrophy, leading to severe suffering, complete disability, and ultimately death.  The University of Rochester is conducting trials into an already FDA-approved drug that shows promising potential for arresting the impact of psychosine on the brain.  The implications for treating Krabbe disease are potentially dramatic.

Judson’s Legacy would like to assist in funding a grant that will help continue this important research.

Russia Without Orphans Bikeathon

By Doorways to Hope

The Story of Kolya:
Left to wander the streets at age 2 1/2, Kolya started sniffing glue and became addicted to other drugs by an age where most kids are learning how to read or play baseball! Thankfully, he was brought to a Christian rehab center in Mariupol, Ukraine, and today Kolya has been clean of drugs and alcohol for nearly three years! He was adopted by Pastor Gennadiy Makhnienko, a loving mentor and role model. He is known for his talents as a poet and song-writer and now he is using those gifts as well as his physical strength and endurance to share his remarkable story to inspire others.

The Project:
Twenty former orphans are biking 2,500 miles from Ekaterinburg, Russia (near the Ural Mountains) to Lake Baikal in Siberia to raise awareness of adoption and foster care!

At designated stops along the route, Kolya and his friends will be sharing their testimonies with thousands of Russians in order to promote adoption for children just like themselves.

These kids train for months to prepare for the intense physical, mental and emotional strain of biking such a long distance (2,500 miles, remember!) in often horrendous weather conditions and sharing such personal stories.

Won’t you support Kolya and his friends as they share their vision of a Russia Without Orphans? $2/mile/child.

Educate to Save a Life

By Seraphim Manor

Seraphim Manor provides domestic violence workshops and seminars to educate our clergy and faith leaders in the most effective way of assisting their congregants in how to extricate themselves from dangerous and abusive situations.

It is imperative that our clergy have proper, Bible-based theology regarding issues that deal with violence and abuse in the Christian family. Too often certain scriptures are use to council victims improperly about the issues of submission and family headship which causes situations of even more abuse.

Seraphim Manor needs sufficient resource materials and supplies to continue our classes to our faith leaders and provide low-cost and/or free educational programs.

PROJECT:LOVE

By Vine Ministries, Inc.

We believe that the solution to the greatest humanitarian crises of the last century is the Gospel being deeply rooted in, and lived out, through the people of God. Project love is a multimedia (video/web based)local church resource and challenge being developed for believers of all ages. It consists of teaching and testimony videos that demystify a missional lifestyle of evangelism, and at the same time, calls the audience into a 20 day challenge: Partner with God, to sow the good news of Jesus, everyday, for 20 days. The project challenges and equips.
Initially, Project:love will be spread organically though social media. There will be an official start date for project:love (June 1st).  Once the 20 days are completed, project:love will continue to be made freely available to the local church as a powerful catalytic resource. We foresee the resource/challenge being accepted by small groups, and youth/young-adult groups long after the initial 20 day challenge is over!
We believe the next great move of God is not going to be thousands and millions gathering around leaders with strong personalities (though there is nothing wrong with that). Rather, the next great awakening is going to be laymen led. We see, on the horizon, the pew sitter lining up on stage at local churches throughout the modern world giving testimony of the power of the Gospel flowing through them in every day life. Through project:love, we believe thousands will be provoked to spread everywhere the fragrance of life (Jesus)!
